Easter Week is approaching, a time that marks a period of introspection worldwide. And how good it is! We are living in the most hectic moment in history, where the speed of information and the excess of screens have distanced us from the calm of nature. This time is for returning to it and understanding our essence in peace.
That’s why we invite you to our Hotel Taha Tai, and we want you to live a unique experience in the world.
Today, we want to tell you about two very interesting events on the island. The first is that our original name is Rapa Nui. However, we are called Easter Island, but why?
Well, this is because it was discovered by Jacob Roggeveen, a Dutchman who arrived on the island on April 5, 1722, Easter Sunday.
Did you know that Rapa Nui has a unique celebration?
In Rapa Nui, there is only one Catholic church.
The history of this church begins with the French priest Eugenio Eyraud, who in 1864 began Catholic evangelization, and in 1937, the construction of this beautiful church, which on its facade features designs where Catholic symbolism mixes with Rapa Nui culture, giving rise to a wonderful spiritual expression.
In the spiritual context of Rapa Nui, the god Make Make is the great creator of all that exists. He is present, and his presence rises iconographically among Catholic symbols.
On our beautiful island, you can live the fantastic experience of witnessing a Catholic Mass held in the Rapa Nui language. This mass has the same structure as the traditional mass; we receive the host, we give each other peace, etc. An experience you cannot miss if you visit our island.
Although several masses are held in this church, the most symbolic is the Sunday mass at 11 am.
We want to invite you to live a different week, where you will experience a cultural expression unique in the world, the heritage of humanity that is Rapa Nui. Easter Island is a paradise you are destined to know.
We await you!
